The First House vanished centuries ago. Its machines have begun to wake.

For seven hundred years, the Twelve Houses have ruled the remnants of human space while the Concord Fleet struggles to keep their rivalries from becoming open war.

Commander Teren Vaust expects another routine deployment when the CFS Resolute is sent to investigate a field of shattered ships beyond the settled frontier. Instead, his crew finds evidence of impossible orders, corrupted authority, and ancient systems still obeying a power that no longer exists.

The trail leads Vaust and intelligence officer Cyrene Oris to Kestrel, a forgotten station holding secrets the Houses were never meant to inherit. As dormant defenses awaken and rival fleets begin to gather, every discovery threatens the fragile balance between them.
